Veterans Day is when we can celebrate and honor our veterans, war heroes, and active duty military members together as a community and thank them for their service. If you have any family members, friends, or neighbors who serve in the Armed Forces or are retired veterans, there is no better time to show them your gratitude for their service.
Cobb County has more than a few events where you and your family or friends can participate, as well as other opportunities that let you support the local veteran community. Whether you are looking for a fun family day trip or a chance to give back and support our veterans, there is something for you. Here are several events taking place on Veterans Day that will allow you to honor and thank those who have dedicated their lives to service.
#1 Marietta Veterans Day Parade
This year marks the 18th annual Marietta Veterans Day Parade that will take place on November 11th, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Roswell Street Baptist Church. From the church, the parade will loop up towards Marietta Square and then down to Lawrence Street before ending back on the square by 11:11 a.m.
It includes marching bands, drill teams, floats, and military vehicles on display, with the JROTC units from Marietta and Cobb County schools donning their uniforms for the event. If you would like to show your support for your local veterans, this is a great event to attend and express your gratitude.
#2 Acworth Veterans Day Ceremony
On November 11th from 2:00 p.m., the City of Acworth will be hosting a Veterans Memorial at Patriots Point in Cauble Park to honor and thank our veterans for serving our country. The ceremony will feature the flags of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard surrounding the American Flag. It is an excellent opportunity for you and your family to pay your respects to heroes from the past and express your gratitude to active-duty military members and retired veterans who are part of the local community.
#3 Veterans Day Ceremony in Powder Springs
Join the community in Powder Springs for the annual Veterans Day Ceremony. This event is conducted in partnership with the American Legion Post 294 and will be hosted at the Veterans Memorial at Power Springs Library on 4181 Atlanta Street and will begin at 11:00 a.m. If you would like to join hands with members of your community to honor your fellow Powder Springs residents for their military service, consider attending this event on Veterans Day.

#4 Veteran’s Day Weekend at Six Flags Over Georgia
If you are a thrill seeker, you might be excited to hear that on November 12-13th, Six Flags Over Georgia is honoring all who have served in the military. All veterans and active duty military members can enjoy free parking, admission, meals, and drinks. Friends and family members can get their admission discounted to $19.99 (for up to 4 in a group).

#5 Hodge Army Navy Veteran’s Day Show
Another event to check out is the Hodge Army Navy Veterans Day Show which features live music all day long, as well as the debut of a music video by Jim Von Steins for a song called “She Cried Douglas.” The event will be at the Hodge Army Navy at 14777 Roswell Rd, 300 in Marietta, starting at 11:00 a.m. and will run till 6 in the evening. Consider joining the community for this event dedicated to honoring the men and women of Marietta who have made sacrifices while in service to our country.

#6 Freedom 7k 2022
Are you an avid runner? If you are, join the community for the Freedom 7k 2022 – Veterans Day Weekend event on Saturday, November 12, to honor our active military and veterans who make sacrifices for us every day. The race is located at 4630 Columns Drive and will start at 9:00 a.m. You can enter the race as an individual or a team, with registration for the event costing $40.
If you wish to join in this fun sporting activity to honor your family, friends, and neighbors for their service, please consider signing up for the event. Each participant will be given a t-shirt on the morning of the race, and it is a great excuse to push yourself to your physical limits!
#7 Buy from Veteran-Owned Businesses
Another meaningful way to express gratitude towards veterans is by shopping at veteran-owned establishments. One such business is an Atlanta Gourmet Food Truck C’est Tout Bon 2 Eat, which serves authentic New Orleans cuisine. Founded in 2014, they offer juicy meals with mouthwatering flavors like Cajun Cheeseburgers and delicious deep-fried Gourmet Dogs.

#8 Free National Park Days
Finally, another way to spend your holiday as a family or with friends is to visit one of the National Parks in the region. Many parks grant free admission to veterans, active duty military members, and their families, making for a great chance to spend time outdoors together. Consider visiting one of many regional National Parks this Veterans Day in memory of those who made tremendous sacrifices to keep our nation safe.
